Orlando Resident to Launch Anime Network Broadcast

HOUSTON, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Orlando resident Janine Hwang was today named the Grand Prize winner in Anime Network's national "Launch the Network Sweepstakes" and will take center stage on July 27 as Anime becomes the first cable channel to move from a strictly video-on-demand (VOD) format to a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week network.

Hwang, chosen from thousands of anime enthusiasts nationwide who flooded The Anime Network website with entries, will be flown to Denver, CO where she will become the first non-animated person to appear on the network as she flips the switch to begin the network's linear broadcast, from the Comcast Media Center in Littleton, CO.

With a dedicated and loyal fan base, anime is among the hottest genres in the entertainment world today. Anime Network is riding that wave of popularity, becoming the #1 national VOD offering available to cable and satellite subscribers and holding the distinction of being the only independent network ever launched from a VOD programming service.

"It's not surprising we would find our national sweepstakes winner from the Central Florida area," explains Kevin Corcoran, president of Anime Network. "After five consecutive successful JACONs (Japanese Anime Conventions), this area has long been considered a hotbed of activity in the anime world. Nonetheless, we are still pleasantly overwhelmed at the response from anime fans there and across the country."
