posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Nelke Planning announced on Saturday that Yukie Nasu's Here is Greenwood shōjo manga is inspiring a stage play this summer. The play will run at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo from July 19-28. Yō Hosaka is directing and writing the play.
The play stars: (clockwise from top left in above image)
- Tatsuya Kageyama as Shinobu Tezuka
- Reo Nagatsuma as Mitsuru Ikeda
- Seiya Konishi as Kazuya Hasukawa
- Shunya Ōhira as Shun Kisaragi
Nasu published the 11-volume manga in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine from 1986 to 1991. Viz Media released the manga in nine volumes from 2004 to 2006, and released the manga digitally in 2013-2014.
Viz Media describes the first volume:
Entering school, Kazuya is introduced to the Student Body President, Shinobu Tezuka, and Kazuya's dorms's Head Resident, Mitsuru Ikeda. The two come across as nice, handsome young men. They escort Kazuya to his new home--a dorm called Ryokurin-ryû--but because the name is a mouthful, everyone calls it by its English translation, Greenwood. Arriving so late in school, Kazuya is assigned to the last available room in the dorm, and paired up with his least expected choice for a roommate--Shun Kisaragi, the cutest girl in the guy's dorm!
The manga inspired a six-episode OVA series debuted from 1991 to 1993. Central Park Media released the anime version in the 1990s, and Media Blasters released the series on DVD in 2004 after Central Park Media's license expired. Additionally, the manga inspired a 13-episode live-action television series in 2008.
