Video streaming service Midnight Pulp is now streaming both Goku: Midnight Eye episodes in both English and in Japanese with English subtitles. The anime is also streaming in English on Amazon Prime Video via Midnight Pulp.
Midnight Pulp has also recently added Lily C.A.T. in both English and Japanese to its own streaming service and in English only on Amazon Prime. Both titles are licensed by Discotek Media, and Lily C.A.T. is also streaming on Crunchyroll.
Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, X) directed the 1989 Goku: Midnight Eye OVA at Madhouse, adapting a 1988 manga by Buichi Terasawa (Space Adventure Cobra, Kabuto). A second 50-minute OVA, Goku II - Midnight Eye, also launched in 1989. Urban Vision previously licensed the anime in North America.
The story centers on a private eye named Goku, who is investigating a series of police officer suicides. After a near-deadly encounter with the culprit, a woman with supernatural powers, Goku gains a cybernetic eye and a staff that can change sizes. The protagonist is loosely based on the Monkey King character (named "Goku" in Japanese) from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
