posted on by Karen Ressler
Entertainment news source Variety reported on Thursday that Crunchyroll has hired former Discovery Digital Networks senior vice president and general manager Colin Decker as chief operating officer (COO).
Decker will handle revenue, operations, strategy, marketing, and brand expansion in the newly created role. Specifically, he will work on original anime series development, Crunchyroll events and conventions, and merchandise.
Variety's report also noted that Crunchyroll has at least 750,000 paying subscribers. An earlier Variety article from June reported that Crunchyroll has at least 800,000 subscribers.
Last month, Crunchyroll's parent company Ellation announced subscription-based content bundle VRV, which includes Crunchyroll and several other streaming channels. Ellation operates under Otter Media, a joint venture between AT&T and The Chernin Group formed in 2014. The Chernin Group, a company run by former News Corporation executive Peter Chernin, acquired a majority stake in Crunchyroll in December 2013.
