Before Mine Yoshizaki designed a whole world of animal friends, he created the popular comedy anime series Sgt. Frog. The sci-fi series stars an alien frog Keroro who is sent to Earth as part of a preliminary invasion force. Things don't go nearly as smoothly as Keroro thought and he ends up living with the Hinata family.
The manga series inspired two television anime series and five feature films. The franchise was a hit in Japan but never quite took off to the same degree in North America, although it definitely still has its fans.
The manga itself is turning the big 2-0 this year and Yoshizaki is helping with the celebrations by drawing artwork for a new line of commemorative merchandise. The merchandise will be released in waves starting in May and up through April 2019. The first release of goods will start on May 26 at Bunkyo Hobby and animega stores. The artwork depicts Keroro sitting on a bench with Angel Mois with a leaf-like umbrella overhead. Merchandise will include an acrylic stand of the characters, can badges, hand towels, notebooks, and coin purses.
Subsequent releases will take place in July, September, November, January, March, and April 2019.
