Japan Gets 2nd Robot-Operated Hotel in Time for 2020 Olympics

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Plenty of new hotels are breaking ground in Tokyo in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games, but few can boast robot dinosaurs on their staff. Located 30 minutes outside of Tokyo's hub, a unique hotel in Urayasu, Chiba opened its doors this month.

The 100-room Henn-na Hotel appears normal at first glance, but inside visitors will find two multilingual dinosaurs operating the front desk. They speak Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean and take care of all of visitors' check-in needs. In the guests' room is an AI robot that can control the television and temperature.

The hotel is operated by the same company that runs the robot-operated Hen-na Hotel (Strange Hotel) at Huis Ten Bosch theme park near Nagasaki. Like it's predecessor, the new hotel is near a major theme park, in this case, Tokyo Disneyland. Operators are hoping that the unique stay will appeal to foreign tourists.
